The County’s 20th annual Disaster Preparedness Day, held at the San Mateo County Event Center, is a family-friendly event (the emphasis is on readiness, not scare tactics) that includes demonstrations on preparing emergency meals without power, how to prepare an emergency kit, create a communications plan (if cell service goes down, how do you and your family get in touch?) and more.
In addition to free admission, this year’s event offers free parking and free hotdogs, along with opportunities to receive giveaways like an emergency radio or emergency meal pack. Classes and workshops are scheduled throughout the event, with many held in Spanish and Mandarin as well as English; check the schedule to learn locations and times.
