Housing Authorities across California, including the Housing Authority of the County of San Mateo (HACSM), have received new guidance from California’s Attorney General, Rob Bonta, on their role in enforcing the Tenant Protection Act of 2019 (TPA). Among other tenant protections, the TPA prohibited annual rent increases greater than the lower of 10% or 5% plus inflation according to the regional Consumer Price Index.
Kiku Crossing, a new affordable housing development, built by MidPen Housing, and located in downtown San Mateo is expected to open in Spring 2024. The Department of Housing invested more than $5 million dollars of Measure K funds to help with the cost of building the 225-unit property, and the Housing Authority of San Mateo County awarded the project Project-Based Vouchers.

At their Tuesday, October 3rd meeting, the Board of Supervisors recognized San Mateo County Park rangers as the County’s September Team of the Month for their dedication to managing more than 16,000 acres of public land and public service to close to 3 million visitors each year. Following partial demolition of the tennis courts, contractors broke ground for Flood’s pump track. Construction is expected to continue until early October.
Construction of Tunitas Creek Beach has begun, with the park scheduled to open in Spring/Summer 2024. The property will be closed for construction until the park opening and is not accessible to the public.
Beginning late July, park visitors will see work begin to demolish one of the old tennis courts followed by installation of the bike pump track.
Coming Soon: On July 25, the Board of Supervisors approved a proposal for to introduce dog-friendly campsites at Memorial County Park beginning this September.
