There continues to be a shortage of infant formula nationwide due to supply chain issues and a recall of infant formula due to bacterial contamination in the Abbott manufacturing plant in Michigan. The federal government is currently working on strategies to increase production of formula and help families access existing stock. Compared to other states California is faring better, but the shortages are still of concern.

Twelve Bay Area health officers are stressing the importance of taking safety precautions, including continued masking indoors, as the region experiences a new swell of COVID cases and hospitalizations. The Bay Area now has California’s highest COVID infection rates. The current wave is fueled by highly contagious Omicron subvariants. Actual case rates are higher than those reported because of widespread use of home tests.

Board of Supervisors provides funding to help mayors raise mental health awareness, increase access to services Redwood City – Cities across San Mateo County are launching a program aimed at training residents to help others who may be experiencing a mental health crisis. The program – Mental Health First Aid Training – prepares community members to intervene early and assist other adults or youth experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis.
