As a dry winter turns to spring 2022 (and coming off of some of the worst wildfire years in California history), public agencies across San Mateo County are stepping up projects to reduce the threat of wildfire from Daly City to Pescadero.

Volunteers Fan Out Across San Mateo County to Count People Experiencing Homelessness

How many people live without shelter in San Mateo County? Nearly two hours before dawn on February 24, volunteer teams set out to canvass streets, parks, creek beds, underpasses and other public spaces to answer that question. The results will help County officials assess how best to serve individuals experiencing homelessness with an eye on the goal of ending homelessness.

State Awards County $16 Million to House Homeless

Redwood City — The County of San Mateo and its partners will provide permanent housing and high-quality support services to dozens of formerly homeless residents thanks to nearly $16 million in state Homekey funds.  Gov. Gavin Newsom today announced the award — the County’s third Homekey allocation — to purchase, rehabilitate and operate the Comfort Inn & Suites, a 51-room at 1818 El Camino in Redwood City centrally located near public transportation and key resources including a library, grocery store, Kaiser and Fair Oaks Health Center.

Eleven Bay Area Health Officers to Lift Most Indoor Mask Mandates on February 16

In alignment with the State, the Bay Area counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma, and the City of Berkeley will lift universal mask requirements for most indoor public settings beginning Wednesday, February 16.
