About the Project
The 2024 Pavement Preservation Project includes pavement repairs, microsurfacing, and traffic striping improvements along various streets within the Unincorporated County of San Mateo.
Pavement repairs – Motorists and bicyclists are advised to expect delays and partial lane closures. Notices will be sent out in advance prior to any work.
Micro-surfacing – Motorists and bicyclists are advised to expect delays and partial lane closures. Notices will be sent out in advance prior to any work. Temporary traffic striping will be laid out until permanent striping can be installed.
Motorists and bicyclists are also advised that roads in District 7 (Kings Mountain Road, Portola Road, Lawler Ranch Road, Sand Hill Road, Whiskey Hill Road) are scheduled for night work micro-surfacing in order to minimize impact to traffic. Changeable Message Signs will be posted in advance with road closure dates.
Traffic striping improvements/traffic restriping - Motorists and bicyclists are advised to expect delays and partial lane closures while traffic striping operations occur.

UPDATES
- December 2023 - Design Phase of the Project has started.
- February 2024 - 30% Plans, Specifications, and Estimates in development.
- March 2024 - 90% Plans, Specifications, and Estimates in development.
- April 2024 - 100% Plans, Specifications, and Estimates in development.
- May 2024 - The Plans, Specifications, and Estimate have been finalized for the Project. The Project is scheduled to be advertised for bids this May 2024, with the bid opening date scheduled on June 6, 2024.
- June 2024 - Bid opening date was moved from Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 2:30 pm to Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 2:30 pm. Bids were received and the lowest apparent bidder is Pavement Coatings Co. The project is scheduled to be awarded on June 25, 2024.
- July 2024 - On June 25, 2024, the Project was awarded by the County of San Mateo Board of Supervisors to Pavement Coatings Co. is expected to start in Summer 2024.
- August 2024 - The first working day for construction is August 5, 2024. The work is anticipated to begin along bayside roads and continue towards coastside roads that are within the project scope. Please refer to the Project Road List in the Related Documents below for a complete list of roads included in the project scope.
- September 2024 - Pavement repair operations completed on Kings Mountain Road. Pavement repairs, microsurfacing, and traffic restriping operations are expected to commence at selected roads along Skyline Blvd and La Honda Road in September. See construction schedule updated as of September 6, 2024 here.
- October 2024 - Pavement repairs are ongoing at La Cuesta/La Honda area and Sky Londa area. Microsurfacing and traffic restriping operations are expected to commence at Sand Hill Road, Portola Road, Lawler Ranch Road, Kings Mountain Road, and all other roads where pavement repairs have previously been completed. Motorists and residents are advised to refer to the attached schedule for the latest construction updates.
- November 2024 - Pavement repairs are ongoing for roads along Skyline Blvd, and are expected to be completed on the first week of November. Striping operations for previously microsurfaced roads are expected to be completed by November 8.
Effective Monday, November 11, 2024, the remaining scope of work for this project will be temporarily suspended due to expected poor weather and temperature conditions. Micro-surface sealing operations and traffic restriping operations for the remaining roads in the project scope are anticipated to continue in Spring 2025, weather permitting. We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences this has caused and thank you for your continued patience.
