UPDATES
Location
Alpine Road from approximately 1500 feet south of Junipero Serra Boulevard to approximately 1000 feet south of La Mesa Drive.
About the Project
In 2017, San Mateo County completed a study that identified numerous improvements along the Alpine Road corridor from the unincorporated San Mateo County/Menlo Park boundary to the unincorporated San Mateo County/Portola Valley boundary. Based on community input and preliminary technical analyses, a refined list of improvements was developed and separated into near-term and long-term improvements. The near-term improvements were lower-cost options that could enhance comfort and accessibility and were completed between 2017 and 2021. The long-term improvements were projects that were more complex and required funding not available to the County and, in some cases, required environmental analysis.

Current Project Phase – Project Initiation Document (PID)
The Alpine Road Corridor Project is in the Project Initiation Document (PID) phase. A PID is the first step in the Caltrans project delivery process and ensures that a project is adequately scoped before approval for funding. A PID provides the basis for the scope, cost, and schedule for all major projects on the State Highway System. It discusses viable alternatives for the project and the scope of engineering, traffic, and environmental technical studies required in the subsequent Project Approval & Environmental Document (PA&ED) phase. A PID allows programming funds for the subsequent PA&ED phase. Opportunities for public input are underway and detailed below.
Public Input Opportunities
Opportunities for public input will be available throughout the various phases of the long-term project implementation process.
The goal of the public engagement process in the PID phase is to collect and record feedback from the community and project stakeholders for inclusion in the PA&ED phase. This will include conducting an online survey and convening one or more public meetings during the PID phase. A preferred alternative is NOT selected at this stage of the project.
Two Public Outreach meetings have been scheduled for Wednesday, October 16, 2024 and Wednesday, November 13, 2024. We invite you to participate to provide input and help shape future improvements. Both meetings will have the same presentation and opportunities to speak with staff.
Location: Ladera Recreation District, Recreation Room, 150 Andeta Way, Portola Valley, CA 94028
Time: 6:30pm-8pm
Meetings will be held in a hybrid format. In-person attendance is highly recommended!
