About the Project
The electrical systems serving the airfield lighting at the Half Moon Bay Airport require replacement due to their deterioration, as most of these systems have been in place since the original date of construction of the Airport in 1942. The Half Moon Bay Airport Electrical Vault & Generator Project includes the installation of a new electrical vault to replace the existing electrical vault serving the airfield lighting systems, as well as a new diesel-powered generator to supply the airfield lighting systems with power for a minimum of 24 hours, in the event of electrical power outages. Back up power for the airfield lighting systems will improve the Airport’s electrical resiliency and usability during power outages on the coast.

UPDATES
- December 2022 - 60% Design complete.
- January 2023 - 90% Design completed.
- February 2023 - 90% Design review complete.
- February 2024 - 100% Plans, Specifications, and Estimates were approved and adopted on February 27, 2024.
- March 2024 - The project has been advertised for bidding, with the bid opening date scheduled on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 2:30 pm.
- April 2024 - The bid opening for the project was moved from Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 2:30 pm to Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 2:30 pm.
- May 2024 - On May 7, 2024, the Project was awarded by the County of San Mateo Board of Supervisors to Anderson Pacific Engineering Construction, Inc.
- June 2024 - Award letter to be sent out. Contract execution to be completed in July.
- July 2024 - The contract execution is expected to be completed in July. An application for a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant is to be submitted after the contract has been executed.
- August 2024 - The contract has been executed in July, and the application process for the FAA grant is expected to be completed by the end of August. Mobilization and preliminary construction efforts are expected to begin in September 2024.
- September 2024 - The FAA grant has been approved for the project. The County of San Mateo Airports Division expects to issue the Notice To Proceed (NTP) to commence construction in September, 2024.
- October 2024 - The County of San Mateo Airports Division expects to issue the Notice to Proceed (NTP) to commence construction in October 2024.
- November 2024 - The County of San Mateo Airports Division now expects to issue the Notice to Proceed (NTP) to commence construction in November/December 2024, pending final revisions to the Project plans.
